This week might be considered amongst the historical ones in the world of online casinos as Chris Christie, Governor of New Jersey, after a long period of disagreement, finally gave entry to only gambling in the state.
If getting an approval had to be a tough thing, the harder part would be to first band with other states for attracting more gamblers and driving up jackpots. Their main aim would be to lure the players from the country away from offshore sites.
Even though New Jersey has become the third one to get approval from online gambling, but this deal comes with a catch. According to the new law, only people, who are physically present in the state, are going to be in the scope to play the game.
Now, there are other states, which are in the queue for getting some form of internet gaming legislation into place. These states include Mississippi, Iowa, Hawaii, California, Massachusetts and Illinois.
If these states have intentions to come up with big jackpots for attracting a lot of players, they would have to attract people from outside their area for combining gambling offerings and setting regulations. They would have to come up with something similar to multi-state lottery drawings, similar to Mega Millions and Powerball.
Tom Goldstein, who is an attorney representing internet gaming companies, said, “I am going to be shocked, in case multiple states do not start cooperating with one another in terms of online casino benefits. It is highly unlikely that the states will be fine with passing millions of dollars, which they could have generated in the form of tax revenue from online gambling, had players from other players might have participated.”
